Thanks to California Human Development, we’ve had access to a warehouse to house our Winter Warmth program for the past several years. Because of program changes, CHD can no longer lend us the use of their warehouse and that means our Winter Warmth program needs a new home.
Every rainy season we distribute warm coats, jackets, outdoor vests, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, tarps, new socks and underwear, gloves, hats, scarves, rain gear, sweaters and sweatshirts to about 30 homeless service agencies and programs throughout the county. Having a centrally located site where those agencies can pick up items and donors can drop them off makes all the difference in getting these life-saving items out to the people who must survive outside on a regular basis. Because our shelters are often full, and motel vouchers are scarce, many find themselves in cars, under bridges, behind dumpsters, and making do out in the cold, wet weather. And every winter season the number of items we distribute increases:
- 2008-09: 1,534
- 2009-10: 2,666
- 2010-11: 3,718
- 2011-12: 3,940
You can make a pivotal difference in the lives of our homeless neighbors by:
- Donating the use of 600 sq. ft. of warehouse or storefront space
- Asking your friends, neighbors, business associates, and fellow congregation members if they own or know of such a space.
We prefer a location in Northwest or Central Santa Rosa. If you are able to donate a space or have questions, click here to contact Fawn, or call her at 575-4494. Thank you!
