Cell Phone Plans

The Lifeline Assistance program is available for one wireless account per household. Separate households at the same address are eligible, including residents of homeless shelters and nursing homes. People with temporary addresses are also eligible. You are qualified if you receive public assistance like Medi-Cal, SSI, SSDI, WIC, Section 8 housing or Cal-Fresh (Food Stamps). You can also qualify based on your household income.

Go to “Provider Search” at to learn about approved California LifeLine providers and their cell phone plans. Also, check out this flyer about a free cell phone and discounted calling plan from Cal Telecom Services. Ii includes unlimited talk, text and data, caller ID, WI-Fi hotspot, voicemail and call waiting.

There are also kiosks/stands where you can sign up for LIfeline services and a free cell phone. Check out the Food Maxx parking lot or Coddingtown Mall. Bring your ID and proof of income.

Only one discount per household for each residential address is allowed. The discount is available for either a home phone or a cell phone, but not both. Households cannot get the discount from multiple companies. Households that do not follow the one discount per household rule will lose the discount.
